After making it into Colorado this afternoon, we’re heading to Craig, Colorado to see a good friend of TW’s. You can tell the elevation is still pretty darn high!

Did I skip a number? It’s not easy to tell. In any case, here’s Sprinkles taking her turn to rest in the shade.

Not the most flattering pictures, but wow! Can you imagine the time and skill required to perfect images like the one I’m standing next to?!

So it’s going down like this:

We drove out to the McConkie Ranch area, which is around a half hour outside of town. The Ranch isn’t actually a ranch, but a spread out collection of houses set against the cliffs and surrounded by fields.

When we arrived, we went to the welcome shack. Yep, it’s literally a shack. There is a small locked donation box where, I’m slightl ashamed to say, we donated our pennies. All of them. Around five or six dollars in pennies. We looked briefly at the hundreds of post it notes left by other hikers, and looked at the hand drawn maps, and then took off on the first trail. It was only around 3/4mile, although pretty steep climbing. Here’s TW about halfway up.
