Sights We’ll Miss #2: Seattle Skyline June 30, 2009
Although its the nearest big city, Seattle is quite a ways away. So when I (Sprinkles) see the Seattle skyline, I know something exciting is going to happen! Today the exciting thing was sushi at Todai on Pine Street. Since we won’t be near the coast for some time to come, we’re eating all the fresh seafood we can. Yum!

Dinosaurs everywhere! In Vernal, Utah June 28, 2009

We’re so excited to see the fossilized eggs, bones, and other paleolithic goodies at Dinosaur National Monument! Long live the dinosaurs!
Here is an excellent website: Northeastern Utah’s Dinosaurland. It even has suggested itineraries with some wonderful ideas: fishing, hiking, and…yay…petroglyphs!!!
The website says:
Located 10 miles north of Vernal, at McConkie Ranch, the Dry Fork Canyon petroglyphs are famous for their quality and accessibility. These panels cover 200 feet of cliff face in the Navajo formation. This gallery of primitive art dating from 1-1200 A.D. shows excellent examples of the Fremont culture. The petroglyphs are located on private land. Access
is granted to those who treat the artwork with respect.
Sounds excellent!
Potential Itinerary – Tell Us What You Think! June 28, 2009
Day 1: Olympia to Wilsonville (travel time ~2hrs)
Day 2: Wilsonville, OR to Boise, ID (travel time ~7hrs)
Day 3: In Boise, ID
Day 4: Boise, ID to Salt Lake City, UT (travel time ~5hrs)
– here’s where it gets a little iffy. We could do the following:
Day 5: Salt Lake City, UT to Steamboat Springs, CO (~6hrs, 23min)
Day 6: Steamboat Springs, CO to Colorado Springs, CO (~4hrs)
–OR–
Day 5: Salt Lake City, UT to Vernal, UT (~3hrs)
Day 6: Vernal, UT to Colorado Springs, CO (~8hrs)
–I’m actually leaning toward the second option, since it will give us time to see the dinosaur bones and fossils and such, as well as (money providing) go rafting on the river. The good part about the first option, however, is that we may not be as tired when we land in Colorado Springs. Whaddya think?
I think we have Boise all dialed in! June 28, 2009
Boise didn’t seem like the most attractive stop at first. Too much town, too little city, ya know? That was until I started looking into some of the fun things there are to do in Boise. And boy (no pun intended), I think I’ve got Boise all dialed in!
We’ll be staying (please please please have vacancies!) at the Givens Hot Springs, visiting the Old Idaho Penitentiary Site and the Basque History Museum, and topping our evening off with an ice block martini from Bardenay. For a little fun, we’ll splash around on a slow river rafting trip at Barber Park.
Great!
Possible Pitstop: Horsetail Falls June 8, 2009
How about a few hours traipsing through a gorge? Ponytail Falls sounds like just the place. Supposedly, its kid-friendly, and I saw <gasp> BLACKBERRIES as a tag on the platial.com map! Could this mean that we might, just might catch a few early blackberries while cooling our heels? Let’s hope so!
